This is an open call for applications that use IoT in the context of smart communities to improve the lives of people in Berkshire’s towns and / or villages. The funding can be targeted at improving local authority services; reducing local authority costs; at citizens or for business. It is expected that strong bids will combine innovative technology with solutions that meet a real need and that the bidders will have the expertise within their teams to understand both of these aspects. Whilst the scope of this challenge is broad to not restrict innovative ideas being funded, successful applicants should have a clear understanding and focus on how they are going to meet the challenge. The Council expect to help refine project definition to meet needs but it is not the expectation of this call that the funding is used for extensive ‘consultancy’ work to identify the challenge to be addressed. The applicant is expected to not only prove concept of the technical capability of the solution but also deploy at scale. The scale of deployment will need to relate to the type of solution proposed.
