“Through Vizsafe’s partnership with bee smart city, we are able to more directly reach and educate city leaders responsible for the innovation and modernization of their communities, but more importantly those cities whose top priority is engaging in the safety, security, and well-being of their citizens.”
Recent innovations including social media and blockchain technology offer the means to crowdsource actionable information about ongoing situations in real time, incentivizing and rewarding contributors for their participation. The applications of such an approach are extremely diverse, from timely maintenance of public and corporate facilities through to mitigating the impact of an unfolding terrorist attack or informing the delivery of public services within Smart Cities.
"Cities have dedicated departments and public safety teams to deal with such issues, but those who are very best placed to notice anything amiss include the thousands of citizens and visitors themselves."
The Crowd is a fantastic, but untapped, resource. However, the reality is that in many cases, the public will overlook a problem for want of a simple but universal process to report it to the appropriate body and the lack of immediate incentive to take the time and effort to do so. Simply put, a minor issue is likely to be seen as ‘someone else’s problem’.
Vizsafe is the first decentralized safety network that crowdsources safety through blockchain incentives. Vizsafe has leveraged the Ethereum blockchain to enable anyone, anywhere to serve as a node on the Geoaware Safety Network and earn SPOT tokens in exchange for verified safety reports.
"This allows cities to access a huge wealth of crowdsourced safety information about their community in real time."
To incentivize citizens to become active participants in this process, Vizsafe has integrated its own blockchain token, SPOT.
SPOT is the internal reward system of the Vizsafe ecosystem. When users report an issue, a smart contract is created in the Ethereum blockchain that places a value on the information they provide. Once the issue has been addressed by the appropriate department, it is resolved on the Vizsafe platform using the same app. At that point, the person who reported it receives their reward in SPOT tokens, which they can spend with vendors in the city for a cup of coffee, lunch, bus ticket, or other municipal services.
With smartphone cameras in hand, citizens have the opportunity to provide information than can be used to reduce risk and speed resolution in the cities and communities they live, providing the opportunity for doing well by doing good.
